I wouldn't expect a botnet to dial itself up and down like that. maybe it's "smart" and only mines when the PC is idle

I see the same patterns in Monero, so they're localized geographically to some extent

this looks more to me like a planned activity, not some opportunistic botnet. Maybe operating in an area with solar power

or some other scheme that only makes sense to consume electricity during certain time periods
