Dear fireice_uk. I must strongly object to you reporting our great Monro community members to Freenode for racism AND getting people K-lined as a result! i.imgur.com/R0T9GGY.png THEY ARE NOT NEO-NAZI!!! THEY ARE JUST SAYING NEO-NAZI THINGS!! i.imgur.com/JYu44As.png I know this because they have been nice to me and made me their Magical Crypto Friend! <sethsimmons "Gladstein doesn't see that as sa"> We *cannot* let this become Monero, and should fight the effects of NgU on community with everything we have.
-
sethsimmons
That mostly comes down to each one of us fighting the greed inherent in NgU, but also a community effort to drive focus on a core ethos around privacy and self-sovereignty to newcomers and education on why Monero matters.
-
dEBRUYNE
You can cheer for NgU without compromising values
-
sethsimmons
<dEBRUYNE "You can cheer for NgU without co"> I'm not saying be mad when NgU, I'm saying don't let it affect our core focus and ethos.
-
sethsimmons
Obviously people gaining wealth by supporting a self-sovereign and decentralized project is not a bad thing, it just can lead to bad things :)
-
dEBRUYNE
Sure, but also have to realize that NgU is beneficial to the system, as it attracts more awareness, people etc.
-
sethsimmons
<fatcat "To make people use monero, it ha"> That work is constantly happening. Pruning is already enabled and works great for those that need it, but Monero inherently cannot prune as aggressively as Bitcoin or other UTXO-based models.
-
sethsimmons
<dEBRUYNE "Sure, but also have to realize t"> Well said.
-
sethsimmons
That seems to involve extreme trust in PoS validators as transactions cannot be rebuilt if a re-org happens.
-
sethsimmons
But might have some interesting component for a non-trusted block production environment.
-
sethsimmons
Ah, true.
-
sethsimmons
Ah, I see now -- they're just extending checkpoints to include approving all previous transactions.
-
sethsimmons
Nodes will no longer be able to re-build chain history with full verification, and instead must rely on the checkpoints put in place by the devs with each release.
-
sethsimmons
That requires implicit trust in those who control the code-base, as they are the verifiers of full chain history and no one else even can be.

I think everyone here knows that most Monero exchange withdrawals and desposits are traceable (Breaking Monero - poisoned outputs). How does it feel to go out and lie to people that they are private and then earn less than holding BTC on your bag?

So . . . it should be obvious that trying to "invest" buy holding onto a useful currency is a sucker's game, anyway.
-
apotheon
If what you want isn't *currency*, then sure, BTC seems attractive.
-
apotheon
I have BTC for that very reason.
-
apotheon
When I want a *currency*, though, I'm more likely to look to something like Monero, or maybe something like BCH.
-
apotheon
At least they can be used as currencies.
-
apotheon
If you bought Monero to bury it in jars in the backyard, you suffer from a fundamental misunderstanding of its place in the world.
-
geonic
hm yeah that's good advice
-
apotheon
thanks
-
apotheon
A friend of mine recently tried using BTC as a currency, and it took days and a nontrivial amount of money spent in fees to get to the point where he could conceivably spend any.
-
apotheon
. . . because of LN shenanigans.
-
apotheon
People have been promising it'll be great again any day now for years. If I was holding my breath, I would have asphyxiated by now.
-
apotheon
If and when it becomes a thing, it might then be worth revisiting, but even then I don't expect it to support privacy, which is important for a full general-purpose currency.
-
Inge-
I still like the idea of monero as an SOV
-
Inge-
although it can't compete with the amount of inflows into bitcoin this year
-
apotheon
right
-
geonic
I though having a use case was a good thing. then I realized that if you invest in something that's unusable, you can promise it will get infinitely better in the future and normies will eat it up. that's how number go up
-
Gerb
cant compete for now, monero fixes most flaws of BTC. I believe it is a matter of time
-
apotheon
As a store of value, "wait and see" maybe, but I don't see a problem with using it as such now; it just wouldn't be the leading store of value for now.

if you are in BTC world today, you need to decide if you want to be above-board regulated BTC holder like Michael Saylor - or if you want to be "not a single BTC KYC'ed" 100% coinjoined BTC holder like Matt Odell

i think invest in bitcoin is much more safe and profitable because bitcoin price rising to higher value and we do not face to any risk when we invest our money in bitcoin and i if we invest our money in bitcoin we will be get a good profit from bitcoin in the future so i think bitcoin is much more profitable currency than altcoins.

FIY, you want to know why you are getting those daily messages? Cults NEED to control information. That's why people like lh1008 get savagly attacked (also called disconnection) for even talking to me. Break the information embargo, break the cult. Who would sign up to Scientology if they knew from the get-go that is is about a sci-fi alien overlord? Who would sign up to MAGA if they knew
