Nodes will no longer be able to re-build chain history with full verification, and instead must rely on the checkpoints put in place by the devs with each release.

I think everyone here knows that most Monero exchange withdrawals and desposits are traceable (Breaking Monero - poisoned outputs). How does it feel to go out and lie to people that they are private and then earn less than holding BTC on your bag?

So . . . it should be obvious that trying to "invest" buy holding onto a useful currency is a sucker's game, anyway.

If what you want isn't *currency*, then sure, BTC seems attractive.

I have BTC for that very reason.

When I want a *currency*, though, I'm more likely to look to something like Monero, or maybe something like BCH.

At least they can be used as currencies.

A friend of mine recently tried using BTC as a currency, and it took days and a nontrivial amount of money spent in fees to get to the point where he could conceivably spend any.

. . . because of LN shenanigans.

People have been promising it'll be great again any day now for years. If I was holding my breath, I would have asphyxiated by now.

If and when it becomes a thing, it might then be worth revisiting, but even then I don't expect it to support privacy, which is important for a full general-purpose currency.
