There are a couple options since last year endogenic, like the CEC1712 or SE050 which can create ECDSA keys with Montgomery and Edwards curves without leaving the chip.

And obviously sign and verify data with the keys as well.

Important is that the chip generates the key and it doesn't leave the chip (some devices control blow a fuse to accomplish this.)

I have a question: which of the following do we mean when we say monero is _fungible_?

(a) There is a fact of the matter as to where any monero funds came from, all the way back to the block reward that created them. However, the facts are obfuscated in the blockchain such that monero is _effectively_ fungible. One could try to trace funds backwards, but they would only be doing some kind of probabilistic analysis.

(b) There is no fact of the matter as to where monero funds came from "originally". If Alice and Bob each give me 1 XMR then what I will have is 2 XMR from Alice+Bob, rather than 1 XMR from Alice plus 1 XMR from Bob. There's no way to split my supply into the portion from Alice and the portion from Bob. Monero is fungible _in principle_.
