I reckon cryptos will make themselves more energy efficient over time (e.g. by moving to proof of stake) and I also think the media is forgetting the fact more and more electricity comes from renewable sources these days and that will become 100% in the future.

If the price of energy goes up to make it less lucrative to mine then the amount of miners will go down and the difficulty to match.

In the UK about 50% of our electricity’s from renewable sources and journalists seem to forget this fact when whining about the electricity used by crypto mining
