Hi #monero! Am I making a mistake by investing $1000 in a CPU-focused rig which will be used to mine monero? The plan is to hold the XMR for years, maybe swap for other altcoins. I expect a crash in BTC within a year and therefore want a lot of altcoins ASAP.

In the US, tax laws for mining are kinda sucky. You get taxed for income when mining, then get taxed capital gains if you later sell it for fiat currency.

I know some of you feel like I am making a mistake, but with my electricity prices and the plan to later upgrade it makes me believe it is not a mistake. The likelihood of you mining invalid shares goes up, but your results may vary (I've heard of people mining via Tor with no issues)
