Too shizo for that

I guess my philosophy is that an immutable ledger is the perfect place to store data

hi, quick nooby question, what's the less expensive and proper way to buy some monero? Swapping alt coins is fine ?
-
apotheon
BTCisMyFavNFT: Nice nick!
-
apotheon
BTCisMyFavNFT: Do you wear that in BTC channels?
-
nioc
rob99: an exchange like binance or kraken that has the alts that yoy want to use, You would have to go alt>btc>xmr but the fees would probably be lower than swap services that go alt>xmr
-
nioc
I don't use the swap services such as sideshit and changenow so no idea what the fees are
-
nioc
whoops sideshift lol
-
rob99
Thanks for the reply, I'm struggling with one thing: by doing alt>btc>xmr, each transaction + withdrawals to wallet has fees, so it would be more expensive than directly buying on kraken, regardless of the conversion rate? (fiat>xmr or just alt>xmr)
-
nioc
I think that most tx fees are not bad except for btc
-
nioc
there are extra trading fees for alt>btc>xmr but should all still be cheaper
-
nioc
my last btc withdrawal from an exchange was ~$20 and for xmr it was almost nothing
-
rob99
Are trading fees always cheaper when you do crypto>crypto ? Still learning sorry
-
nioc
they should be listed on each exchange so you should be able to figure for your usecase
-
rob99
I'll keep an eye on that, thanks for your help :)
-
nioc
yw :)
-
nioc
again haven't used swap services in a while but their rates are usually worse and there can be fees as well, not always easy to figure
-
nioc
you can start a trade without completing it to see I guess
-
rob99
yeah I checked some swap services and it's definitely not the best
-
bobbieweirder[m]
<rob99 "Thanks for the reply, I'm strugg"> send litecoin to cake and then covert on cake to XMR
-
rob99
yeah cake looks good for that
-
nioc
bobbieweirder[m]: rob99 cake uses changenow so exchange rates are fees are ????
-
nioc
so although easy you are paying the extra to use the swap service
-
bobbieweirder[m]
<nioc "so although easy you are paying "> yeah unfortunately. there are going to be fees to on ramp one way or another so you just have to look for the easiest and relatively cheaper way. converting BTC gets expensive quickly so i would definitely look at alternative pairs. i also use kucoin since i already have assets there, but i would still have onramped from fiat to USDT somewhere else so you’d still be paying
-
bobbieweirder[m]
fees twice that way
-
nioc
on an exchange going from alt>btc>xmr there are no btc fees
-
nioc
it is 2x trading fees which will probably still be cheaper
-
nioc
I am on trade ogre which has low fees and they charge 0.2% trading fee
-
nioc
0.4% has to be way lower than any swap service
-
bobbieweirder[m]
yes sorry that’s right. i was thinking about the fiat on-ramp only. i use CB to get USDT and i still gasp everytime i see those fees
-
nioc
they have somewhat limited trading pairs
-
bobbieweirder[m]
trade ogre does?
-
nioc
so again find the exchanges that carry the coins you need and see what the total cost is
-
nioc
trade ogre has less coins than binance if that's what you are asking
-
nioc
they do however have wownero :D
-
nioc
again all the info is out there so it's now just a matter of looking for what you specifically need
-

the traditional art market is basically just rich people's way to transfer money to each other. I make some insider traiding based on your tip and then I buy a painting from you for suitable price. your painting is stored in Geneva warehouse with million other paintings and it never leaves the place, just ownership changes. I guess you could use NFT for this same but in that case it's a mistake to think that

Hello. Newcomer here. Looking for best way to exchange BTC->XMR (non KYC). Just read about a new "haveno" project which allows p2p XMR<->crypto exchanges. Looks to be in very early beta stage, but is this legit?
-
zwischenzug
Have also read about how atomic swaps are "almost here". If haveno is secure/working, why are atomic swaps important?
-
moneromooo
Sites like sideshift can help. xmr.is is one of them, but scammed, don't use that one. Haveno seems legit AFAICT, but not ready to use yet.
-
apotheon
zwischenzug: To me, haveno looks "probably legit", but probably not yet usable with any safety.
-
moneromooo
Atomic swaps are trustless trades, haveno will be trusted.
-
apotheon
I'm not the expert, though.
-
apotheon
moneromooo: What's up with xmr.is being "scammed"?
-
apotheon
Do you have some simple details to share?
-
selsta
they exit scammed
-
selsta

-
apotheon
oh
-
apotheon

-
zwischenzug
From haveno docs: "Haveno uses peer-to-peer networking and multi-signature escrow to facilitate trading without a trusted third party custodian. Disputes can be resolved using non-custodial arbitration"
-
bobbieweirder[m]
<zwischenzug "Hello. Newcomer here. Looking "> proof of concept still. it just had its very first public meeting yesterday
-
moneromooo
I guess it's half trusted. There's no central party you give the funds to, it's multisig so you have to trust the arbitrator (third key holder) is honest.
-
moneromooo
It's better than a run of the mill centralized exchange for sure.
-
zwischenzug
Ahh, and the arbiter never really has access to take full custody of the coins
-
moneromooo
Correct. The arbiter would need another signature, either trade party.
-
zwischenzug
So both buyer/seller trust the 3rd party arbiter to facilitate the trade fairly, but don't need to trust the arbiter with custody of their coins
-
moneromooo
Right. In most cases, the arbitrator will not do anything, and not be needed.

i think with the crypto market so active we are definitely going to see some upward price movement soon. i just worry people will stop trying to spend it if there’s too much deflationary pressure (from everyone being bullish)
